Trend of the Week // Red

Red is a typical Christmassy colour right? Well it's one I adore, particularly at this time of year. Shall we just forget how expensive Cambridge Satchels are and appreciate how beautiful this mini red one is?! Satchels are my favourite style of bag and there's so many variations, there's one for every season and occasion. Of course a red lipstick is essential for all year round but are great in winter especially. Everyone is always talking about Rimmel Kate Moss lipstick in shade 1.

These check trousers from Topshop are lovely- when you don't feel like wearing jeans again, a tailored trouser can be the way to go. I'd wear these with a grey crop top and leather jacket. The cut-out detail on this top from Boohoo is so interesting and could easily add interest to a relatively plain outfit. I think this red dress by Pins & Needles at Urban Outfitters would be a great one for a New Years party as it's floaty and comfortable but the cut-out chiffon sleeves add a little something extra. I'd add a chunky necklace and some flatforms to finish the look.

Trend of the Week: Mini Bags

Oversized totes are on their way out (at least for this season anyway) and small bags are in. Bigger than clutches but still cute, I'm a big fan of these bags. Yes, you may have to downsize what you carry around with you but they're a really flattering, simple addition to an outfit.

The jewelling detail on this grey satchel type bag from ASOS is really cute and would add a great, statement touch to a simple winter outfit. This nude one from Boohoo is a bargain and is so simple it would go with everything. If you're not a fan of a clutch for a night out this would be a simple alternative. Despite the price of this Vivienne Westwood bag from Urban Outfitters, it's absolutely gorgeous. As you all know, tartan is a big trend at the moment and the colours of this bag are just lovely. Sling this over your shoulder with a midi dress and some mid heels and you have an instantly classy look. This mini yellow holdall is super cute too- it comes with a long strap or short handles so you can go for different looks. Yellow is great for adding some fun to your outfit too (from Topshop).

Trend of the Week: Sweatshirts

I've always been a fan of sweatshirts, despite having only recently bought my first one. They're so easy to throw on and make for a really nice look. Here are some of my favourites at the moment:

First up is a really simple grey quilted sweatshirt from Urban Oufitters- I've seen a lot like this around lately and think it's a great way to inject some texture into your wardrobe. Teamed with some leggings and some trainers this would be a really great casual outfit. For something a little more Christmassy, how about this cute one from Topshop? I love the motif on the front, plus it's knitted so will be super warm but still looks like a sweatshirt. This would look lovely with a skater skirt and some ankle boots.

If you're after something a bit simpler, I'm really liking this dark red one from Boohoo. I love the studded detailing on the shoulders as it adds an edgy touch, plus this is super cheap. Finally for my favourite one (this is from ASOS) as this perfectly describes me- or at least what some people say about me! I love things with eye-catching slogans or designs on them as they are so fun.

Trend of the Week: Four Coats

I've been reading a lot of magazines lately to try and find inspiration for my autumn/winter wardrobe, particularly which coat to buy. I'm one of those people who likes to buy a new on-trend coat every winter and I've come to the conclusion that there are 4/5 biggest coat trends that I'd like to share with you today.

A classic British coat is the duffel coat like this one from Topshop. Seen regularly on the likes of Alexa Chung, they're made of a thick wool and typically have toggles for buttons. I love the fit of these and love the length of this one. Oversized/boyfriend coats are next up- this red one is from River Island. I can see this paired with a black skater skirt, some tights and boots for an evening out- I'm a big fan of these coats although I'm not sure hey would suit my smallness.

Trend of the Week: Tartan

I adore tartan- this trend ties in to the 'Trend of the Week: Punk' which I shared with you a few weeks ago, as when someone says punk, I automatically think of tartan. I've been thinking about tartan trousers for a while now and I think these cigarette-style ones from Topshop are great. With a baggy grey top and some loafers this would be a great look. A simple way to wear tartan would be this lose fitting cardigan from Boohoo, as it would just be a great item to throw on on a cold day to add a little warm and pattern to a simple outfit.

A classic tartan item would be a tartan skirt, and I love this one (from Miss Selfridge) as it doesn't have the classic 'kilt' shape. It's a-line, I like the zip detail and the darker red and green are really interesting. Finally, my favourite item takes the form of this tartan pinafore from ASOS- how great is it?! I'd wear this with a classic white shirt, a duffle coat and some boots, it's just a super fun piece.

Have you got a favourite way to wear tartan?

Trend of the Week: Ladylike

Femininity is back this season and there are so many ways to wear it- I thought I'd share a few with you today. Slip dresses were seen on the runway multiple times at Louis Vuitton; designed to give the illusion that you have just climbed out of bed. This one is from ASOS and I love the a-symmetrical hemline and simple embroidery. Wear this with boots and a large fur coat for the look of glamour and luxury.

These shoes from Topshop fit into three trend areas at the moment- they are ladylike, pink and have a metallic texture too. I love the small heels and pointed toe as they are very classy, and would love to wear these with a light shift dress for a night out. For more glamour, add this necklace from Missguided which looks a lot more expensive than it is. I've seen necklaces like this worn in many ways, from a t-shirt and jeans to a formal dress. I'd wear it with a shirt tucked into skinny jeans and a clutch bag for a night out.

Finally, I've read in a lot of places that off-the-shoulder items are a key way to wear the ladylike trend this season. I love this one from Boohoo- it's a bargain and comes in a variety of colours, plus it's a bargain at just £10 each. The sleeves are a great length for autumn/winter too. I'd wear this colour with some Mom jeans and a statement necklace.

Trend of the Week: Pink

I remember a time when I was obsessed with pink as a child- I got my whole room painted pink with cat wallpaper and got a bright pink carpet, only to decide a year later I didn't like pink anymore. Well pink is going to be a key colour for the coming season, and I'm quite happy about it. I've loved some of the items I've seen, and as long as it's done correctly, it could really be a hit.

I adore this pale pink faux leather pencil skirt from Topshop. It's knee length so it stops it looking too tacky and I would wear this with a sheer white shirt, some strappy sandals and an envelope clutch for a night out. For a more casual look, I love this bubblegum pink crop top from Motel which would look great with some high waisted leather shorts (with tights for winter). The pink colour is super cute and would suit most skintones.

If you'd rather not wear pink clothing, an easy way to inject some pink into your look is with your make-up. I love Topshop blushes and this bold pink colour is called 'Afternoon Tea'. These can easily be blended out for a natural pink flush on the cheeks. In Urban Outfitters I saw this pink reusable coffee cup and I love cups that you can fill up at home to save yourself money in Starbucks! The bright pink colour is wild and very eye-catching.

Trend of the Week: Textures

I'm trying out a slightly different format for my Trend of the Weeks for a few weeks so do let me know whether you prefer this or the old format. Textures are going to be huge for this autumn/winter, I've already seen loads of this in shops already and thought I'd share my favourites with you.

I think the easiest way to wear this trend is with a chunky cable knit jumper like this pink cropped one from Meemee. I'm pretty sure almost everyone will already have one of these and they're perfect for winter to just throw on with jeans to keep you warm. A slightly more adventurous jumper would be this black fluffy one from ASOS- it has sheer lace panels in the front which add further texture. I love the relaxed fit and would wear this with leggings and low-heeled boots.

If you want to be more adventurous, I adore this pink ruffled top from Topshop.  It has a nice tight fit and is very flattering on girls with boyish figures to add the illusion of curves. Plus the pretty pink colour is also bang on trend. Finally is a grey quilted skirt from Boohoo, and quilting is so simple to wear because it pretty much goes with anything. I'd wear this skirt with a plain crop top and some thigh-high boots if you're brave (they're going to be a key piece for the upcoming season, even if I don't think I can pull it off!).

Trend of the Week: Punk

Summer has flown by and it's already time to start talking Autumn/Winter trends. I'm super excited about next season- yes, I will miss prancing around in crop tops and jelly shoes but from what I've seen, next season is going to have many trends that are right up my street. Today we're talking punk- try listening to the Sex Pistols while reading this post to get you in the mood.

A checked skirt is a staple piece for working the punk trend. This one is slightly different from the average red and black checks with yellow and green thrown in instead. Plus the length is interesting and will work especially well for colder days.
Styling tips: try pairing this with a white button-down shirt and a fitted biker jacket, then add some chunky black boots.

Perfectly fitting in with the trend, these boots are called 'Puck Chelsea Boots' as they follow they basic principal of Chelsea boots, just toughened up. You even have a choice of them in black or white.
Styling tips: they will pretty much go with everything but try with some high-waisted baggy jeans, maybe with some distressed detailing, a graphic print t-shirt and a bowler hat.
Due to the mesh sleeves and cut-out details, this crop top would work really well for this trend. Obviously if it's autumn it's going to be colder so use it as a layering piece.
Styling tips: start with some high-waisted leggings, add some boyish brogues and a cocoon coat (such as the ones seen on the Chloé catwalk). You can always add a tartan scarf if it's chilly.

Finally, a more feminine take on punk. The cutout sides in this dress add an interesting punk-esque look, perfect for a night out.
Styling tips: team this skater dress with some sky high chunky heels such as a pair of Jeffrey Campbell Litas, then layer on the studded jewellery and a dark red lip.

Is punk a trend you'll be wearing this Autumn/Winter?

Trend of the Week: Orange

I've been really into orange lately- from my favourite coral blush, to the hunt for my perfect orange lip colour. The MAC 'All About Orange' collection has been on my radar recently (unfortunately all my favourite products are now sold out!) but it got me looking at some wonderful orange clothing items and I decided it was time to do a post on some of the things I've found.

Neon orange is bang on trend right now so this skirt is perfect. The shape is almost a-line (at least it's not bodycon) which is something I'm loving at the moment. The lace is very girly and I love how it hangs down slightly over the lining of the skirt.
Styling tips: this would look incredible with tanned skin to really make the neon pop. From there I'd go with some leather sandals, a loose grey t-shirt tucked in with some statement silver jewellery.
£40, Topshop

I went off peplums for a while as they were all a bit same-y, but this one I love- the various shades of orange flowers are really eye catching and perfect for summer. It looks like a really nice shaped peplum too- some that I've seen are just a bit floppy as I like ones that are more structured.
Styling tips: I'd just wear this simply with some leggings and some wedge heels for a night out, maybe a blazer and an envelope clutch to smarten it up further.
£14.75, Forever 21

Coloured jeans are one of the simplest ways to inject some colour into your wardrobe as they are so easy to style. I love that they're high waisted and neon too- again, would look perfect with a tan.
Styling tips: I'd keep this simple with a white sheer blouse, some chunky white loafers and a biker jacket. I love them for the summer when the weather is dull!
£30, ASOS

Finally is this tomato-orange dress. The low neckline and wide sleeves are kind of 70s and are very girly and flirty. I can see this being particularly flattering on those with smaller busts and a boyish frame.
Styling tips: for a night out, I'd wear this with some chunky heels and gold jewellery. A statement necklace would really accent the neckline.
£50, Motel

As always, I'd love a follow via GFC, it would make my day- just click here!

Trend of the Week: Chunky Heels

I don't know if you can really class this as a trend but I've been seeing a lot of chunky heels around lately and I love them, so thought I'd share some of my favourites with you. It seems lately that there is a big contrast with shoes- you either get something very slim and feminine or chunky and androgynous. Personally, I prefer the chunky heel- I find them easier to walk in and they're just more me.

The first pair of shoes are these gorgeous chunky heels, described as 'shiny stack platforms'. They do have a big platform so look super comfy. The wooden-look detail is really earthy and natural looking, especially with the different tones but I adore the shiny wood as I think it just makes them look a bit more luxurious and expensive. They have these in multiple colours but I love the white as it is bang on trend right now.
Styling tips: as these are so chunky, I'd keep the rest of the outfit girly- a flirty coral coloured skater skirt and a crop top with some round sunglasses is perfect for summer.
£55, Topshop

These shoe boots have a chunky wooden heel again with a peep toe, cut-outs on the side and a buckle fastening. Personally, I'd wear these casually, the heel makes them a little smarter but it's quite low and chunky so would be quite comfy. I think they'd work for summer but also could be carried through for autumn as long as it wasn't raining!
Style tips: some rolled up skinny jeans and a striped shirt, add a blazer and my Ted Baker bag would go perfectly with this outfit!
£22.99, New Look

I love these chunky cut-out heels- they have a laser cut kind of look in the main part of the boot and the heel area is also revealed which adds an interesting detail. It has a peep toe and shoe laces in a contrasting colour. They kind of work with the sporty trend as they are quite reminiscent of trainers but are still smart.
Style tips: to keep with the sporty theme, I'd wear these with some three-quarter length leggings, an oversized t-shirt and a leather jacket.
£85, Urban Outfitters

Finally, I am fully in love with these heels! They have a chunky black heel and are strappy with studs and buckles. Often I'm not a fan of peep toes (I have almost a phobia of feet, don't ask) but these I just love- if they weren't open toe then I don't think why would be quite right. They're edgy but would be perfect for wearing on a night out.
Style Tips: as I said, for a night out these would be perfect- I think a hot pink dress and some chunky jewellery, and a perspex clutch bag like this one would be perfect!
£34.99, New Look

Which are your favourite heels?

Trend of the Week: Metallics

Beginning with something basic and metallic- shoes are an easy work to work the metallic trend, it's more subtle but can still make a statement. These shoes are of a fair height, and I love the textured material they're made of.
How I'd wear these: for a night out I'd wear these shoes with a white skater dress. Then I'd keep it simple with silver jewellery and a metallic clutch bag.
£30, Boohoo

I adore this skirt for many reasons: the stunning green colour, the scalloped hem, the laser cut-outs and the skater style. It's such a bold piece but would look fantastic for those who dare to wear it.
How I'd wear this: due to the eye-catching skirt, I'd keep it simple with a white chiffon blouse and I think some white Jeffrey Campbell Litas or some similar white chunky boots. Add an envelope clutch for a smart look.
Originally £14.99, Missguided

This is a silver metallic sweatshirt/t-shirt. It really shows off how to work the sports luxe trend which is so big at the moment. It's got a lovely texture and a lose, casual fit which is slightly cropped.
How I'd wear this: I'd just got with a black midi skirt and some black loafers, add a leather jacket to toughen it up a bit.
£30, ASOS

Finally is probably my favourite item that I found whilst researching this trend. You know by now that I adore my biker jacket and this blue metallic version is a great alternative. The quilting detail on the shoulders adds a bit of texture.
How I'd wear this: this would be a perfect alternative to a plain biker jacket if you had an outfit that you wanted to jazz up a bit. I'd go with some light was boyfriend jeans, a slouchy white t-shirt and throw this jacket on top. For accessories I'd go with a chunky silver chain necklace and some chunky mid heels.

Trend of the Week: Mid Heels

Mid heels are something that I have never worn- I'm a huge fan of sky high heels, and so when I first heard about mid heels coming back in, I wasn't sure how to feel. But recently I've been finding a lot of mid heels that I love so thought I'd feature them this week.

I spotted these shoes the other day and just fell in love with them- the rose gold colour, the wooden heel, loafer shape and tassel detail on the front. They're a great alternative to high heels for a night out with a smart dress.
How I'd wear these: I'm loving cropped tailored trousers at the moment and I think these would great with a pair of these; add a sheer blouse, a large envelope clutch and a chunky necklace for a smart look.
£65, Topshop

The vibrant blue colour of these mid heeled pumps is gorgeous and great for spring. I like the little metal trim on the heel as it just adds a cute detail.
How I'd wear these: I think these would look lovely with maybe a white skater skirt, a tank top and a fitted biker jacket. The shoes just add a classy touch to an outfit which is something I really like to do in spring/summer.
£22.75, Forever 21
These shoes have an interesting square shaped heel, coated in gold glitter. The gold compliments the nude suede kind of material of the shoe and how the square heel contrasts with the rounded toe.
How I'd wear these: these would work so well for a night out, and would allow you to stand up all night without your feet aching too much! With a sparkly shift dress, gold accessories and a small clutch bag you have a look perfect for an evening out.
£25, Boohoo

Finally are a pair of shoes very different from the others I've featured in this post: the heel on them is small and chunky, and they have a gladiator-esque look to them which I love. The chunky look is not something I normally wear but these are different- the buckles, the distressed look to the material and the heavy grooved tread.
How I'd wear these: these are slightly grungey so I'd keep that as a theme throughout the outfit- distressed denim shorts, a band t-shirt. A floral crown would add a cute girly touch to the outfit and make it perfect for a festival.
£90, ALDO at ASOS

Trend of the Week: Denim

Lovely people- lets talk denim. I love denim, particularly because I tend to live in my jeans when I'm at home but today we're talking things that are slightly different. I've chosen a variety of pieces and as usual  i'll just tell you how I would style them.

I'm kind of obsessing over these shorts at the moment- they have gorgeous embroidery and in the store the embroidery is almost neon, it's super bright. The light denim colour just really looks right to me and they're slightly high-waisted so that's always a bonus. Also I like that they're not too frayed at the bottom and they're just a nice twist on a normal pair of denim shorts. I'm hoping to snap these up myself in the next month!
How I'd wear these: they are perfect for summer with a white tank top tucked in and then some Vans or Converse for a really casual look.
£35, Topshop

Now moving on to something slightly different; this denim bralet is another piece perfect for summer. I love the hook and eye fastening up the front, it just a great bit of detail.
How I'd wear this: with a bright printed a-line skirt or similar in some tailored shorts, maybe add some loafers of brogues (whichever you prefer) and some cat eye shades.
£20, Miss Selfridge

This skirt is from a brand called 'The White Pepper', this skirt is super cute as it's made from a light cotton denim so it wouldn't be too heavy or uncomfortable. The pleats make it super girly but you could easily toughen this up if you're not into a super girly look.
How I'd wear this: I'd keep white as the main colour to this outfit with a white crop top or blouse and then some white cut-out brogues to just add a twist of fun. A daisy necklace like this would top it off perfectly!
£45, ASOS

The last item is probably the most out there but I just couldn't resist when I spotted this pastel pink acid wash number. It looks just like a long denim jacket with buttons all the way down and I just really think it works due to the tight fit. It's not for the faint-hearted: if you're going to wear this wear it with confidence.
How I'd wear this: some lace cycling shorts would work really well under this in my opinion and then just add some chunky sandals and wayfarer style sunglasses.
£55, Motel

Trend of the Week: Lace

Lace is a very pretty trend, and is perfect for when you want to bring out your girly side, yet you can still toughen it up with leather or denim. I love all of today's items because they are great for if the sun ever decides to come out here in Britain!

So this lace dress is absolutely perfect- I love the pastel colour with the lace overlay, and the floaty shape is so cute. The straps add a little something to the dress, it makes it a bit more girly and the cinched in waist gives it a bit more shape.
How I'd wear this: this would be perfect for a summer evening with some simple court heels and a slouchy clutch bag. For day I'd go with a denim jacket and some leather sandals.
£65, Topshop

This top shows a slightly more grungey form of lace. This top could be worn underneath a sheer top is you didn't want to show off your underwear or as a top alone. It also comes in a nude or white colour if black isn't your thing.
How I'd wear this: some high-waisted denim shorts, a leather jacket and some black chelsea boots would be a perfect way to grunge up a summer look.
£18, Urban Outfitters

These ruffled lace shorts are so cute- they remind me of something a china doll would wear! I love the neon pink underneath, it adds some fun to an otherwise very girly item.
How I'd wear these: with some nude heels and a sheer white blouse for a night out because the ruffled texture is very flattering.
£20, Boohoo

Finally one more dress- this one is so great because it is a skirt and top all on one. I love the way the top looks like a bandeau with lace top over it. The pleated skater skirt it very cute, and I love that the belt finishes off the look perfectly.
How I'd wear this: keep it simple with loafers and a satchel for a cute spring look.
£48, ASOS

Trend of the Week: Fruits

Right, today's post contains some very fun items of clothing and I wish I could have them all! Fruit prints are very fun, bright and perfect for summer.

Beginning with this bikini with a very cute lemon print on it. I love lemon as a colour so along with the print it works wonderfully. This comes in two versions but I love this one with the high-waisted bottoms, it adds a lovely retro feel to the bikini. I can just picture wearing this sat in the sun on holiday- bliss.
How I'd wear this: I think cat eye sunglasses would look super cute with this to keep the retro look going. If you were heading out, I'd throw on some high waisted shorts and chunky wedge heels and a sheer top.
£34, Topshop

Another bright fruity print, this one has bright orange peaches all over it with a lace trim around the top. It also has a collar peaking through underneath which I love! The skater style is very pretty and the colour is wonderful.
How I'd wear this: I suppose because of the bold print I'd keep it simple with some leather sandals and a denim jacket.
£9.99, Missguided

Ok, this is cheating slightly but now I'm talking nail art! 3D nail stickers like these have been around a while now and you can get them in all sorts of places. They are super cute and just add such a fun touch to any outfit, and will surely be a talking point.
How to wear these: paint your nails with a colour of your choice (a bright glossy polish would look great), stick one of these on while the polish is wet and finish with a clear top coat.
£4, Urban Outfitters

So finally a crop top with an amazing tropical fruit print! The black background really makes it pop and this is again, perfect for summer.
How I'd wear this: I'd go with some high-waisted distressed denim shorts and some Converse. Put a scrunchie in your hair for a very 90s look!

Trend of the Week: Florals

This is a pretty obvious trend for spring/summer but one that has exploded onto the scene even more than usual this year. It's one I love because it's so versatile.

So let's begin with this cute sun top from Topshop- it's a great floral print because it's bright but still very pretty. The details on the strap are   great too, they're a bit different from a normal vest top.
How I'd wear this: I'd team it with some light wash skinnies and a cardigan for a spring day, with some cute flats and some sunglasses.
£26, Topshop

I adore this skirt, the floral print is kind of vintage looking, and I love the mint colour. The pleats and the hi-low hemline make it perfect for summer, the material looks super lightweight too.
How I'd wear this: which a white chiffon vest and some leather sandals, then add a pastel blazer and a satchel.
£16.75, Forever 21

So this dress is gorgeous, it's a skater style but has a slightly fuller skirt which I love. it's kind of a graphic floral print so it's quite modern.
How I'd wear this: I'd love it with sandals and a denim jacket for a daytime look but it would also look great with some heels and a coloured envelope clutch bag.
£55, ASOS

Finally is this tropical floral print playsuit, it's so bright and perfect for a hot day.
How I'd wear this: some chunky silver jewellery and some flat shoes are all this bold print needs.

Trend of the Week: Playsuits

So friends, today we're talking playsuits- a summer must-have in my view and I have some of my favourites to show you right now:

Lets begin with this gorgeous acid wash denim playsuit. This is so 90s which is a trend I'm loving at the moment and the elastic at the waist just makes it a bit more flattering and gives you a bit more shape.
How I'd wear this: this would look so great with a shirt or polo shirt underneath and them some high top trainers and some 90s sunglasses.
£36, Topshop

This is probably my favourite item I have to show you today, I adore the colour and the super cute cutouts around the collar. Perfect for summer whilst still looking smart.
How I'd wear this: some chunky loafers, silver jewellery and a cute cardigan would do this justice.
£25, River Island

The print on this black playsuit is the cutest- little white elephants all over it, and the pussy bow collar just makes it a bit more grown up.
How I'd wear this: this would be perfect for a night out with some black heels, an oversized clutch bag and a blazer if you needed something to cover up with.
£35, ASOS

So finally is this monochrome playsuit with a lovely floral design. Monochrome is going to be huge this summer so this fits right in.
How I'd wear this: I'd keep this one simple with just sandals and sunglasses for a summery day. You could even add a bright jacket for a pop of colour.

Trend of the Week: Tie-Dye

I can't believe that I haven't already featured this as a 'Trend of the Week' as tie-dye is one of my favourite things ever. Believe me.

This gorgeous t-shirt style dress is a perfect example of how versatile tie-dye can be as the colours are quite natural and this dress really would go with a lot of things. It's perfect for summer and would be great on holiday to just slip on over a bikini.
How I'd wear this: perfect for a summer day, I'd go with a denim jacket, some Vans and a slouchy bag.
£29, Topshop

Ok, lets ignore the price of these dungarees and just look at how perfect they are. The bright colours are what caught my eye but I also love the lace panels on the side, they make them a little more grown-up.
How I'd wear these: I honestly think that on holiday this could be worn for a evening with some wedge heels and some gold jewellery.
£230, House of Holland at Urban Outfitters

This top is very subtle tie-dye but it's still gorgeous. The embellishment on the neck teamed with the red print makes it actually quite a sophisticated item.
How I'd wear this: high-shine disco pants and a pair of sky high heels would be a perfect look, and add a blazer if you want something smarter.
£12, Boohoo

Finally this simple yet very effective skirt has a great tie-dye print and this would look great with or without tights.
How I'd wear this: I'd tuck in a white t-shirt loosely and add a biker jacket and some chunky loafers.
£12, ASOS
