I have had bad skin for as long as I can remember, a good four years at least. It's a problem that drives me mad as it really puts a downer on my confidence. I get everything: spots, redness, dry skin, oily skin and dull skin. I've tried so many different products to try and fix it and although certain products do help, nothing has helped me completely.
But recently I've found something that has worked really well:
Healthy eating.
I was determined to do this right, so about two weeks ago I started my healthy eating regime. I gave up all sugary foods and replaced them with foods rich in vitamins and calcium and I've seen a great difference already. My spots have almost vanished from my face, my skin feels smother and looks less oily, my skintone is also more even and looks brighter. I've got so much more confidence already and so if I keep this up my skin will be perfectly clear in no time.
But how have I done it?
It hasn't been as difficult as I thought actually, it's all about substitution. Now just as a side note- this has nothing to do with losing weight, it's clearly to help clear my skin up. Here are a few suggestions:
- rather than a pudding after a meal I now eat a fruity yoghurt
- I now drink fruit juice rather than sugary drinks like Ice Tea or lemonade
- you can get fruit snack pots from supermarkets which are a great alternative to something sweet
- I have cucumber with as many meals as possible for an easy way to get 1 of your 5 a day
As I say, it's given me so much more confidence and now wearing make-up is becoming a hobby rather than a chore- I can wear it because I enjoy it rather than feeling like I need it. This has also given me a chance to try out different products that have lighter coverage. One of the looks I'm wearing at the moment is below:
Max Factor's 'Creme Puff' is a solid foundation that I rarely wear but have been really getting into it lately as it just provides light coverage and a summery glow. For a natural look, I lightly contour my cheeks with Bourjois's chocolate bronzer, and add a little brush. Define my brows, add mascara and finish off with this Revlon Balm Stain in 'Honey', a really natural pink colour.
I'm definitely going to keep on with this routine because I just love the way it makes my skin look and feel. Of course, I'm not going to give up sweet things forever but I'm having them much less often so it doesn't completely mess up my skin again. And ok, it's not perfect- I still get the occasional spot and my skin is still oily at times but it's just such a big difference from how it used to be I'm thrilled.
Let me know if you've ever tried anything like this for your skin and how you got on!
